How it all began
Let’s start with a little trip down memory lane……
When I first started my learning and development consultancy, I needed to work out whether I should operate as a limited company or as a sole trader. Trying to seek the answer for myself, I spent a significant amount of time asking Dr Google about the advantages and disadvantages of limited company vs. sole trader. I sifted through pages and pages of answers, but I still couldn’t determine the best set-up for me. Sifting through the search results, the website of an accountant caught my eye. Friendly, no jargon, and straightforward. The website, and the accountant, resonated with me. I sent an email with my question. They replied suggesting a power hour to discuss. I gladly accepted. It was not a huge cost, but to date I count it as one of the best investments I have made in my business.
Why? Because I got answers. I could ask questions. The conversation went off onto other relevant topics; topics I would not have thought of, but they were sparked by the conversation. I left that power hour with a smile on my face and a weight lifted from my shoulders. I could move forward in the right direction with the set-up of my business.
Searching online is great if you just need a yes or no answer, or if you are looking for ideas or even a range of perspectives. But those answers do not allow for nuance. You can’t have a conversation with your Google search results. What you can end up doing is going down an information rabbit hole and be more overwhelmed and confused than when you started.
And that is why I created the Power 45 offering.

I know that when training needs come up for small businesses, they probably won’t come to a learning and development specialist like me. They will go to their HR consultant. I’m a resources hoarder which means I have a folder on my laptop full of useful material that I have gathered over the years. I am creative and love exploring new ways to do things, so I have tools to help with that. I also like tech so I can share ideas for using technology to make things more efficient or to make training more engaging.
I am fully aware that I am one person and Google and, let’s mention it now, ChatGPT, have access to the World Wide Web. But that’s all they have – access to information. They haven’t experienced things themselves. They haven’t done things and learned from them. They haven’t seen success when an activity or a resource lands well. They cannot tailor a solution to meet your specific needs. They haven’t spent time sifting through the info, trying things, adapting things, learning from others. I have, so I like to think that I’d be pretty good at helping you with your learning and development challenge.
